Building with

Clay blocks

At GIMA, we combine traditional brick manufacturing with sustainable, innovative techniques. Our new clay blocks, manufactured without a firing process, ensure significant energy savings. By using locally sourced clay, we have short transport routes, avoiding imports and unnecessary journeys. Our commitment to sustainability and ecological responsibility is reflected in every product.

A major milestone was reached at the beginning of 2025: the German Institute for Building Technology DIBt granted us general type approval for load-bearing clay block masonry using the thin-bed method. At the same time, the GIMA perforated clay block was granted general building approval in accordance with DIN 18945 with the number Z-17.6-1306. The clay block can therefore be used without restriction for all buildings in building class 5 and can be processed just as efficiently as conventional fired masonry bricks.

Clay is natural

Raw material deposits

Clay is a building material that is thousands of years old and a local and sustainable raw material. It consists of a natural mixture of sand, clay and silt, which is formed by the weathering of rocks. When sand or rock is quarried, clay remains as a natural product, which requires responsible and long-term use of this resource.
Clay is recyclable

Circular economy

Clay is a regionally available building material that is completely recyclable. Following deconstruction, the components can be directly recycled and used to produce equivalent building materials. This contributes to an efficient circular economy and significantly reduces production waste.
Clay is energy efficient

Reduce CO2 emissions

Existing production lines for masonry bricks are used in the production of our clay blocks. However, the usual firing process is completely eliminated here. Thus, the energy requirements for all production steps can be met using the electricity generated by our PV systems.

Healthy housing

In this type of residential building made of clay, the difference to a conventional house is noticeable from day one.

Sustainable

Quarrying clay begins with removing the fertile topsoil. The clay layers are extracted and used for local production.

Recyclable

Clay masonry is bonded using clay mortar and can thus be 100% recycled into raw material.

Our vision

Efficient building with clay

"We want to create a building material that is suitable for mass production, can be manufactured industrially and is therefore affordable, and which, as a purely natural product made of 100% clay, also meets the highest sustainability requirements."
Simon Irlbeck
Head of Construction Technology at GIMA
"Absolute availability is built into this product."
Till Lill
Head of Supertecture and recyclable building pioneer
"Every brick is a piece of earth, with its tone, colour, smell, porosity, mass, texture, that delivers an excellent balance of beauty and performance."
