Ecological, versatile, healthy

Clay is ecological

Clay has been a tradition in architecture and craftsmanship for centuries.
GIMA continues a long tradition in the manufacture of clay construction materials. With our quality products, we are not only an important supplier in the region, but also satisfy our customers across borders with customised solutions and innovative approaches.

We are the only factory in the world to produce such a wide range of different clay products in one location. In addition to our bricks for facades and floors, the Marklkofen site also produces roof tiles for our sister company, Erlus, and large-format brick panels for our subsidiary MOEDING. The entire range from the hand-operated brick former to high-tech production is represented and is now supplemented with ecological unfired clay blocks.

CO²-savings

Existing production lines for masonry bricks are used in the production of our clay blocks. After shaping, clay blocks are dried in our drying chambers at 80 °C for four days. The usual firing process is completely eliminated here. Thus, the energy requirements for all production steps can be met using the electricity generated by our photovoltaic systems and by heat recovery within the plant.

Raw material deposits

The clay in our production comes from clay pits in the immediate vicinity of our plant. By using locally sourced clay, we have short transport routes, avoiding imports and unnecessary journeys. Once the valuable clay layers have been extracted, the sites are immediately restored. This takes the form of biotopes or agricultural land, as can be seen in the picture here.

Recyclability

Clay is a regionally available building material that is completely recyclable. Following deconstruction, the components can be directly recycled and used to produce equivalent building materials. This contributes to an efficient circular economy and significantly reduces production waste. This picture shows our current clay pit and the different structures that the clay already has in its original state.
"Unfired clay speaks to a time when we need to focus more and more on reducing our consumption of materials and our climate footprint."
